Riptide Rendezvous…

is a  fly-fishing “tournament”, focused on fly-fishing the surf. Organized by the Southwest Council of Fly Fishers international,  Riptide Rendezvous is a non-profit fundraising event, with all net proceeds go to the SWC-FFI, to help fund fly-fishing outreach programs. This year the proceeds go to the Conservation Program and Women's Program.  Registration through IAngler off the Riptide website. http://www.riptiderendezvous.com/ .  It is not online at this time.

Riptide Rendezvous 2019 is in the books! And what a difference 18 months makes. We had 27 anglers (21 fly, 6 conventional), catching 92 Surf Perch and 1 corbina in the two-hour fishing window. There was a second Corbina caught on fly, but it was foul-hooked, so it didn't count. Quite a step up from the results from 2017...

Big Horn River, Montana - AUGUST 2018

big horn

Catch a 20-inch trout on a size 20 dry fly. Here’s your chance to join the Sespe 20 / 20 Club on the Bighorn River, Montana, August 2018. We’re planning an outing to the Bighorn River in time for the Trico Spinner Fall. It happens early, early, in the morning and is near impossible not to have a personal-best-day. So many fish are feeding you pick one from the pack, cast just upstream and get an immediate take. Practice your shorter casts, they’re that close!

Frances and Bob Smith and Earl and Ann Arnold spent several days on the Big Horn last month with striking fishing and breathtaking vistas. After such a great experience, they spent a day thinking about a trip for the Club. Planning for a 3-4 day Club Outing, they saw several potential places. There are many great fishing lodges throughout Montana, but the Bighorn River View Lodge and Cabins in Fort Smith, has fine, friendly accommodations, reasonable pricing, and the most incredible view overlooking the fabulous Bighorn River.

The Bighorn River is one of the finest trout stream for dry fly fishing in Montana. Big Sky Country, long summer days, cool, clear starry nights and plenty of big trout. Superb river floats from several locations on the river. Here’s the basics: There is a main lodge with 2 bedrooms and 3 separate cabins above the Bighorn River at Fort Smith, Montana. Two cabins accommodate 4 persons and one cabin accommodates 3 people. Everything is new and/or completely refurbished. $120 per day includes lodging, breakfast and dinner. Meals are family style in the main lodge dining room. Happy hour is overlooking the river. BYOB as it is located on an Indian Reservation and the closest liquor store is about an hour’s drive.

You can opt in/out of any meal (breakfast is $15 and dinner is $30) $75 per night + $45 for breakfast and dinner = $120/day for the full package A packed-lunch can be ordered for an additional $15 to take out if you are wade fishing, bird watching, or site-seeing, or provided at no additional cost by your guide, if you float the river. Of course, the River View Lodge can reserve a Fishing Guide for a river float. Each cabin includes: • Private decks on each cabin over the river. • Equipped with free Wi-Fi, DirecTV satellite television, satellite radio • Comfortable beds with newly upgraded pillows, linens and comforters • Air conditioning and heat • Mini fridge • Fly tying table http://www.flyfishingthebighorn.com Contact Ann.scarborough@gmail.com if interested.
